Micro-needling

Micro-needling is a cosmetic procedure.  It involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilised needles to create minor wounds.

The goal of the procedure is to start the body’s healing process by stimulating collagen and elastin to repair these tiny injuries and producing fresh new tissue. Clinical studies show an improvement in skin lifting, skin tightening and an increase in skin density

What Is Micro needling?

Micro-needling is a cosmetic procedure.  It involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilised needles to create minor wounds.

The goal of the procedure is to start the body’s healing process by stimulating collagen and elastin to repair these tiny injuries and producing fresh new tissue. Clinical studies show an improvement in skin lifting, skin tightening and an increase in skin density.

Why Micro-needling?

Micro-needling allows us to treat the eye contours and areas difficult to reach with larger devices, such as a laser handpiece. Rejuvapen NXT® is such a neat pen, flexible and light weight. It allows us to perform a complete skin rejuvenation treatment in 20 to 30 minutes.

What age can you have Micro-needling?

It is a good idea to start this type of treatment in your 20's or 30's so that the boost in collagen production is more significant. This is going to train the skin to produce collagen regularly and keep your skin looking younger for longer.

Benefits of Micro-needling?

The maintenance of collagen and elastin is of paramount importance in maintaining a youthful appearance.  Micro-needling is also known as CIT, Collagen Induction Therapy.

Collagen is composed of three chains of proteins twisted around one another to strengthen the skin.  Elastin is an elastic-type of protein to keep skin supple. Collagen and elastin fibres within our connective tissue form a web to support our skin, keeping it tight, plump, and youthful looking.  We suggest a series of 3-6 sessions depending on the skin and desired result.

Does Micro-needling work on darker skin?Micro needling may work better for people with darker skin tones because it doesn’t involve heat the way laser treatments do.  The heat generated with lasers can negatively affect the skin’s pigmentation, or colour.

What Does Micro-needling treat?

  • Lifts, tightens, and rejuvenates skin
  • Stimulates collagen for overall skin health
  • Improves the appearance of stretch marks
  • Improves Acne Scarring
  • Improves Scars
  • Minimises Pores
  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

Home rolling.

Home micro-needling kits, or home rollers, are becoming more and more popular. They’re widely available and inexpensive.

Rollers used at home use shorter, needles than professional micro-needling devices. They temporarily stimulate blood vessels to brighten the skin. But home rollers usually won’t give you the same results as micro needling but are an excellent way to support and maintain your treatment when used correctly.  Ask your therapist to recommend the best devise and serum for you.

What happens during a Micro needling treatment?
Your therapist will move a pen-shaped device with a cartridge containing tiny needles around your face. The needles make tiny punctures in your skin, which may cause some blood spots, but you shouldn’t bleed. A serum will be applied before, during and after your micro-needling.

Most people get micro needling on the face, neck and décolleté, but it can also be done on other parts of the body, such as your stomach or thighs.

Things you should know

It’s not a quick fix. It takes time to notice a difference. That’s because your body is healing itself. Most people need a few treatments before they see any change.

Healing time. It may take a couple of days to heal, depending on how deep the needles pierce your skin.

Redness. Your skin may be red for a couple of days.

Peeling. Your skin may feel tight and flake a bit while it heals.
